Direct democracy- A government in which citizens rule directly rather then through represenatives

Classical Art- The art of ancient Greece and Rome in which harmony order and partition were emphesized

Tragedy- A series form of drama dealing with the downfall of heroic or noble character

Comedy- A humors form of drama that often includes slapstick and satire

Peloponnesian War- A war lasting from 431 to 404 B.C. in which Athens and its allies were defended by Sparta and its allies

Philosopher- A thinker who uses logic and reason to investigate the nature of the universe he man society and mortality

Socrates- 470-399 B.C. critic of the Sophists'

Plato- 427-347 B.C. student of Socrates

Aristotle- A philosopher who questioned thee nature of the world and of human belief thought and knowledge

1- To strengthen Athenian demoracy
2- To hold and strengthen the empire
3- To glorify Athens

Pericles- Stratgey was to avoid and battels with the Spartan army and wait for an opportunity to strike Sparta and its allies from sea.
